Team Muirhead Bow Out at Semis

Posted on

Team Muirhead’s Canadian Open title defence ended at the semi-final stage when they were beaten by fellow world champions Team Jones in Yorktown, Saskatchewan.

The Scots had performed solidly to reach the knockout stages of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event for the second successive year and kill off the hopes of Saskatchewan native Val Sweeting’s rink in the quarter-finals and they began their semi-final well with a steal at the opening end.

However Jennifer Jones’ vastly experienced rink levelled at the next and after a further exchange of singles took them to the halfway stage the Canadians then powered away, stealing a shot at the fifth end and registering doubles at both the sixth and seventh to establish a 7-2 lead that brought about the handshakes.
