SCOTLAND’S MEN INTO BRONZE MEDAL GAME AT EUROS

Posted on

A second defeat in a day at the hands of host nation Sweden ended Team Paterson’s bid to defend the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships title that was won for Scotland last year by their rivals Team Mouat.

Six time champions Team Edin, who had been undefeated in nine matches during the round robin qualifying stages, maintained their dominant form as the knock-out stages got underway in claiming an 8-4 victory. Scottish skip Ross Paterson duly admitted they had simply been too strong for him and team mates Kyle Waddell, Duncan Menzies and Michael Goodfellow as they had been earlier in the day when they were beaten 7-3 in the last match of the round-robin section.

“It was a tough game and we were really up for it, but Edin was on top form as he has been all week and today he seemed to have all the answers,” said Paterson.

The Scottish quartet still has a chance to finish the competition on a high by bringing home a medal.

“We are disappointed, but we will now get ourselves ready for the bronze medal match tomorrow,” Paterson said.

Scotland now looks for a final showdown with Denmark’s Team Krause, after they lost out to Switzerland’s Team Schwaller 8-5 in the other semi final.

“We want to finish the week well and do ourselves and Scotland proud,” Paterson added.
