Team Muirhead Into Euro Final
Team Muirhead produced a stunning comeback against Finland in Esbjerg to claim a place in the final of the European Curling Championships.
Favourites to progress as much the more experienced team in the knockout stages of major tournaments the Scots found themselves in deep trouble early on when they conceded doubles at the first two ends and another steal at the third to fall 5-0 behind.
However having got ever closer to their best form as the round-robin stages progressed, they responded brilliantly with a three at the fourth end to get themselves back in contention and gradually began to impose themselves.
A double at the seventh end levelled the match and when they stole two more shots at the next they were in command.
“It's always going to be a tough comeback,” skip Eve Muirhead said of what confronted them after three ends.
“But take away the first three ends and we played a fantastic seven ends. We knew that if we could get our twos and force the ones - the three in the fourth end was a bonus - it just shows the fight in our team, that we stick together and play as we know we can play, we can do it.”
They now face Russia’s Team Sidarova in the final having lost narrowly to them early in the round-robin stages and Muirhead has always viewed the knockout stages as a different competition.
“It should be a really good game and we're looking forward to it,” she said.
“Tomorrow we have a day off, so a bit of practice in the morning and have a chilled afternoon - probably come watch the men's semi finals - and then get ready for our final.”
